Canonical rearticulation of the network-comparison table (bucket A; feeds deck S5's strip, the appendix, and replaces the hackmd version front-of-house). The mechanic, same as the economic-media history (see evolution-of-economic-computation-v2.md): each network generation stuck because it extended a write permission to the edge — and paid by enclosing a register. The enclosed register is where the next generation happens. The fourth column is not a feature set; it is the ratchet's next click: meaning becomes writable.

The social column is the existence proof. The social graph is multi-dimensional network accounting, performed at planetary scale, daily — trust, attention, reputation, affinity, all registered and computed. The semantic limit is therefore not a technical impossibility; it is an authority arrangement: the richer ledger exists, enclosed. The fourth column doesn't invent multi-dimensional value computation — it hands its write permission to the edge.
The enclosure row is the selection mechanism. Each generation's enclosed register is exactly where the next generation happened: enclosed discovery → the social web's answer was authored presence; enclosed graph-economics → blockchain's answer was self-custody and permissionless issuance; enclosed meaning → the economic network's answer is programmable semantics. Betting on column four is betting with this pattern, not on a rupture.
Column four is a different kind of column. Google, Facebook, and Ethereum are operators or instances that own their layer's remaining enclosure. The fourth column has no operator by construction: the grammar is the shared thing, the spaces are sovereign, and what would have been the enclosure — meaning — is the write permission being distributed. That is why its canonical instance is a protocol and a confederation, not a company.
