The platform existence proof

Platforms already run multi-dimensional network accounting at planetary scale, daily: the semantic limit is an authority arrangement, not a technical impossibility.

Every large platform computes rich, multi-dimensional value continuously: reputations, matches, rankings, recommendations, risk scores, network positions. This is network-scale accounting over meanings, not just quantities, and it runs in production for billions of participants. The question of whether distributed value-semantics can be computed is therefore closed. Platforms closed it.

What platforms did not distribute is the write permission. The platform's members write meaning in, semiotically: posts, ratings, links, behavior. The economic register stays read-only at the edge; the platform alone converts that meaning into economic consequence and owns the result. Semiotic write, economic read-only. The enclosure is not in the computation but in who holds the pen.

This reframes the claim. Distributed economic computation is not a speculative capability awaiting invention; the computation exists, enclosed. What changes hands is authority: the permission to define units, meter contribution, and compute value moves from the platform operator to the network's own members. The thesis asks for a transfer, not a miracle.

The existence proof also disciplines the bet. Betting on the layer that opens the last enclosed register is betting with the selection pressure of economic media, which has moved write-permissions edge-ward for five thousand years — not on a rupture, and not on utopia. The platform era is filed where it belongs: the era that proved network-scale semantics computable and kept the proceeds, immediately before the era that hands over the permission.
